The sound is part of the magnetic mechanism. As the spool rotates, outer-ring magnets move small distances inside their chambers. Their movements and impacts contribute to the clicks you hear.
Listen as you change the arrangement
Magnet placement and polarity affect the pattern of interaction. A different arrangement can change the rhythm and prominence of the sound, as well as resistance and tactile feel.
Use the factory arrangement as your reference and make one change at a time. Compare at a similar spool speed, then check the fully assembled reel.
